Removing Problem Teeth with Comfort and Care

Losing a tooth as an adult might feel intimidating, but sometimes it’s the healthiest option. Severe decay, broken teeth, advanced gum disease, and repeated infections can make a tooth unsalvageable and cause constant pain and even put your overall health at risk. Our team can relieve discomfort, stop infections in their tracks, and even prevent more serious health concerns with a  timely tooth extraction in Washington Heights. Using the latest techniques and a compassionate approach, we’ll make your experience as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Signs You Might Need a Tooth Extraction

Not every dental problem means losing a tooth, but in some cases, it’s the best option for your overall health. You might need an extraction if you have:

  • Deep decay that can’t be treated with a filling or crown
  • Gum disease causing teeth to loosen
  • An infection that hasn’t responded to root canal therapy or antibiotics
  • Impacted wisdom teeth that cause crowding or pain
  • A severely broken tooth
  • Crowding that prevents proper alignment during orthodontic treatment

If your tooth can’t be saved, we’ll work with you to plan for what comes next. From dental bridges to implants, we offer solutions to restore your smile and bite.

What to Expect During Your Tooth Extraction in Washington Heights, NYC

We know dental procedures can be nerve-wracking, especially if it’s your first time. That’s why we walk you through every step of your tooth extraction at Fort Washington Dental Associates.

  1. Initial Evaluation
Whether your extraction is planned or part of an urgent dental visit, we’ll examine your tooth, review your health history, and explain all available options before moving forward.
  2. Keeping You Comfortable
We take pain management seriously. Most patients do great with a simple numbing injection, but if needed, we also provide sedation options to help you feel more relaxed.
  3. Tooth Removal
Depending on the condition and position of your tooth, we’ll perform either a simple or surgical extraction. In both cases, we take great care to remove the tooth as gently as possible to support healthy healing.
  4. Post-Extraction Care
After the tooth is out, we’ll protect the area with gauze, stitches, or bone grafting material if necessary. If you’re planning for a dental implant, we may place the implant post the same day.
  5. Recovery Support
We’ll give you easy-to-follow instructions and check in as needed to make sure you’re healing comfortably. Our team is always just a call away if you have any questions.

Tooth Extraction Recovery Tips

A little extra care goes a long way in speeding up healing:

  • Take it easy the day of your procedure
  • Use gauze to manage any bleeding
  • Apply a cold compress for swelling
  • Stick to soft foods like applesauce or soup
  • Avoid using straws, smoking, and drinking alcohol for a few days
  • Rinse gently with salt water starting the day after surgery (if advised)

We’ll provide detailed instructions for how to care for your oral health after your tooth extraction. Be sure to follow them as closely as possible and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns!

A good friend suggested this practice to me, having gone there for dental work over several years, and I am so grateful that she did!! I went to Dr. Lee for an issue that had persisted for a while and could have required major treatment or could have been due to bite, receding gum, and sinus issues. Dr Lee did not rule out anything but analyzed the symptoms methodically over an initial treatment and follow-up check-ups, and I think has resolved the issue with competently minimal intervention. He listens, analyzes, asks, and explains excellently. It is such a pleasure to find a very competent and personable dentist who is enthusiastic and well-informed in his role as healer, who also is not far from where I live in Upper Manhattan. His staff are also very pleasant and competent. As I told him, for me finding this practice was one of the good things of 2025. I very highly recommend this practice!
